Morvern Community Woodlands aims to provide the local
community with access to firewood and milled timber
at reasonable cost, finding more local uses for the
abundant forest resource and encouraging better management
of neglected woodlands in the process.
Morvern Community Woodlands now has access to machinery
and trained members to make this possible.
Another service that the group is developing is the
breaking down of bigger logs (up to 3 foot diameter)
using the Logosol Big Mill system with a Stihl chainsaw,
enabling woodland owner-managers to turn these previously
redundant logs into useful timber.
Morvern Community Woodlands volunteers have also acquired
skills and networks to enable them to set up co-operative
contracting, craft and furniture businesses in their
professional lives. This is also proving a useful outlet
for local timber processed by Morvern Community Woodlands
members.
